ARGUS INFORMATION SERVICE was established in 1960, at the same time with the birth of the Republic of Cyprus. Until then commercial information in Cyprus was mostly unavailable and no offices or organizations existed for providing such a service. The only information that could be obtained - and this necessarily limited in its scope and extent - was through Banks, Chambers of Commerce and Industry or business associates.

Renos Lyssiotis, a young Greek-Cypriot London trained lawyer, with a long family business tradition, realized the need for bridging the existing gap and for the establishment of a serious professional organization providing effective commercial information and credit management services. He realized that as a result of Cyprus' Independence, a new era was dawning; that an expansion in trade and industry would ensue, requiring accurate and reliable information. Against the advice of many who thought that such an effort would be futile in a small country like Cyprus, where everybody knew everybody else. Renos Lyssiotis decided to forge ahead and become a pioneer in the field of commercial information. In 1960 ARGUS was established - named after the Greek mythological giant with the hundred eyes.

From the first few months of the ARGUS foundation it became obvious that a great demand for its services existed. A thirst for information was abundant especially from overseas. Within the very first year of operation an additional demand for commercial and private investigations was created and an investigations department was set up. From the very early days a good nucleus of local and overseas clients was created which within a short time grew and expanded.

Today, ARGUS with 48 years of experience behind it, is not only the first established but definitely one of the leading organization of its kind in Cyprus. It has gained the confidence, respect and praise of all who used its services for its prompt, dependable and accurate reporting, its integrity and its professional collaboration.

ARGUS is owned by its founder Renos Lyssiotis who continues to be its Director. It is served by professional and experienced staff whose skill, diligence and integrity form part of its success.
